We held an Ozoni Cooking Event!

We hosted an Ozoni (New Year’s soup) cooking event at a rental kitchen. No Japanese New Year is complete without ozoni!

This time, we were joined by participants from Germany and Denmark. The group was small, just six people, but that made for a warm and friendly atmosphere where we could all enjoy the experience together.

Ozoni varies by region in Japan, so during the event we made both Kanto-style and Kansai-style versions. While cooking, we also learned about the differences between the two and the cultural traditions of Japanese New Year.

Although simple, the flavors of the dashi (broth) and miso are rich and deep—and we think everyone really enjoyed the unique and subtle tastes!
